Grand Canyon Wastewater Treatment Plant Installs Landia Chopper Pumps

The Grand Canyon’s South Rim Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) will soon have six new Landia non-clog chopper pumps.

The Landia chopper pumps, which are designed with an external knife system to prevent solids from entering the pumps’ casing, will be installed adjacent to the plant’s returned activated sludge and waste activated sludge basins, where they will pump the sludge while chopping up rags and other debris.

Receiving a gravity-fed daily average of half a million gallons of wastewater from domestic and industrial users, South Rim WWTP is managed by the National Park Service, based in Flagstaff, Arizona.

At its six lodges and other operations near Grand Canyon National Park, national park concessioner Xanterra Parks & Resorts uses some 60,000 gallons per year of reclaimed water for non-potable purposes in its kennels, employee bathrooms and landscape irrigation.
