BigbellyLos Angeles’s Downtown Center Business Improvement District (DCBID) has expanded its use of the Bigbelly smart waste and recycling system for broader waste management coverage across the district.

Thirty-six new Bigbelly waste and recycling units will replace traditional trash bins on the southern California streets. According to the smart waste and recycling management company, the Bigbelly system helps customers reduce operational costs by 70 percent to 80 percent.

The smart, cloud-connected Bigbelly system gathers, consolidates, and analyzes data from connected waste and recycling units for a complete waste management solution that beautifies public spaces and increases operational efficiency. Sensors and intelligence triggers notify waste collection employees when units near capacity, aiding in optimized collection scheduling and public space cleanliness.

Carol Schatz, president and CEO of the DCBID, says the district decided to expand its use of the Bigbelly system after experiencing cleaner streets and sidewalks, as well as reduced waste collection costs, improved overall operational efficiency, and enhanced waste and recycling disposal by pedestrians.

Last month Bigbelly established a wholly-owned UK subsidiary to better serve its growing UK customer base.
