Environmental Executive Moves: VW, Enerkem, Xylem, H2O Innovation

Volkswagen: In the wake of allegations that the automaker has been using an emissions testing defeat device in its diesel-engine cars, Martin Winterkorn has resigned as the company’s CEO, a position he has held since 2007. No successor has been named, but the company’s executive committee announced it will discuss recommendations at the end of this week.

Enerkem: The waste-to-biofuels and chemicals producer announced that Robert Shaw (pictured) has joined its executive team as senior vice president and chief financial officer. Prior to joining Enerkem, he was CFO of Southwest Oilfield Products.

Xylem: The water technology company has appointed Colin Sabol as senior vice president and president of analytics and treatment. He most recently served as senior VP and president of Dewatering for the company. David Flinton, who is currently VP of marketing and engineering for the company’s Applied Water Systems division, has been promoted to senior VP and president of Dewatering.

H2O Innovation: The water treatment technology company has named Marc Blanchet as chief financial officer and Guillaume Clairet as chief operating officer. Blanchet joined the company in February 2007. He most recently held the position of vice president of corporate and legal affairs and corporate secretary. Clairet was previously the executive vice president of H2O Innovation.

Cool Planet: The renewable energy and ag technology company has named Greg Butler, Anne Gaffney and James White to its technical advisory board. Butler is managing director of Clean Carbon and the director of Yorke Biomass Energy. Gaffney is the director of Process Science and Technology at Idaho National Laboratory. White has more than 45 years of industrial, academic and national laboratory experience and is named an inventor on more than 100 US and non-US patents.

International Desalination Association: The industry association has elected Emilio Gabbrielli as president of the association for the 2015–2017 term. Gabbrielli is director, overseas development, global sales of water treatment for Toray. IDA announced that Shannon McCarthy, co-founder and a partner of United4Water, has been named first vice president, and Zamzam Saleh Al-Rakaf, chief engineer and director of design department for desalination projects for the Ministry of Electricity and Water, Kuwait, has been named second vice president.
