RobecoSAM’s Sustainability Yearbook 2016: Who Made the List?
The world’s most sustainable companies are located in Europe, according to RobecoSAM’s Sustainability Yearbook 2016.
The investment specialist today announced which companies made the annual list from each of the 59 industries analyzed.
The Yearbook looks back at companies’ sustainability performance in 2015 and includes the best 15 percent per industry awarding them gold, silver or bronze medals. In addition, the company with the highest score in each industry is named RobecoSAM Industry Leader.
Industry Leader’s include: Akzo Nobel (chemicals), Coca-Cola (beverages), SAP (software), Unilever (food products) and TransCanada (oil & gas storage & transportation).
RobecoSAM has been assessing the sustainability performance of the largest listed companies on a yearly basis since 1999. This year it assessed 2,126 companies from 42 different countries based on their performance in financially material ESG criteria and awarded 77 gold class medals, 74 silver class medals and 97 bronze class medals.
Split by region, Europe holds the greatest number of companies (203) included in the Yearbook as well as the most gold class medal winners (36).
The US has 75 companies included in this year’s Yearbook and 10 gold class medal winners: Abbott Laboratories, Agilent Technologies, Alcoa, Ball Corp, Biogen, Humana, Newmont Mining, Owens Corning, Reynolds American and Wyndham Worldwide.
The 2016 Yearbook will be presented on Friday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Last year nine US-based companies won gold class medals in the 2015 RobecoSAM Sustainability Yearbook.
