Xerox to Certify its Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Xerox Corporation has joined the California Climate Action Registry, a  group of organizations that voluntarily take action on climate change. As a member, Xerox will annually track, report and certify its greenhouse gas emissions.

Xerox has pledged to cut greenhouse gas emissions from worldwide operations (it operates in 160 countries) by 10 percent from 2002 to 2012. To date, Xerox says it has reduced emissions by more than seven percent.

Among its projects:

– Redesigning manufacturing processes to reduce energy demand; for example, a new embrittling agent process Xerox uses cuts the energy needed to manufacture conventional printer and copier toner by up to 22 percent.

-Developing more energy-efficient technologies, such as EA (emulsion aggregation) toner, which is produced using a manufacturing process that grows toner particles to the right size. This advanced toner requires about 25 percent less energy to make, compared to conventional toner.
