Marriott International says that more than 85 of its hotels will earn the Energy Star label – signifying 35 percent less energy use than average buildings – from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency this year. Marriott already has more than 200 Energy Star-labeled hotels. The company has set a goal to certify at least eight hotels per month – 12 are being recognized today in Boston.
Marriott recently announced that it reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 70,000 tons in one year and is the first hotel company to join the EPA Climate Leaders Program. Additionally, the company has set a five-year goal to reduce greenhouse gases by six percent per guest room by 2010.
The 12 hotels being recognized today include: Boston Marriott Quincy; SpringHill Suites Peabody; SpringHill Suites Boston Andover; Courtyard Boston Norwood; Courtyard Boston Woburn/Boston North; Courtyard Boston Danvers; Courtyard Boston Lowell/Chelmsford; Courtyard Boston Foxborough; Courtyard Boston Stoughton; Courtyard Boston Milford; Residence Inn Boston Tewksbury/Andover; and TownePlace Suites Boston North Shore/Danvers.
