Toshiba Classic Uses RECs, Offsets to Go Green

The PGA Championship Tours’ Toshiba Classic is using renewable energy credits and greenhouse gas emission offsets to help the tournament be a carbon neutral event. The move has been coordinated by FirmGreen Energy which is providing the RECs and offsets and will be a sponsor of the event, being held in Orange County, California March 5 – 11.

“We are pleased to partner with FirmGreen to ensure that the Toshiba Classic is environmentally responsible. With FirmGreen’s guidance and expertise, we are happy to achieve this goal by utilizing green electricity and carbon offsets,” said Jeff Purser, the tournament director.

To calculate emissions associated with the tournament, FGE reviewed all event related activities from travel to venue lighting, and will donate Green-e certified credits to offset this carbon footprint – expected to be more than 500 tons from vehicle emissions alone.
