Tesco’s Greenness Questioned, Sends DVDs Extra 1,400 Miles For Tax Break

Tesco sends CDs and DVDs to Switzerland and back, almost 1,400 extra miles, in order to exploit a tax loophole that saves UK customers as little as £1.56 on a DVD, The Telegraph reports.

The disclosure is likely to spark allegations of hypocrisy, according to the article, because Tesco often touts its green initiatives

Tesco.com is one of a number of online retailers, including Asda and Amazon, that ships CDs and DVDs to customers from outside the EU in order to exploit a tax loophole and undercut rivals.

A Tesco spokesman said the number of DVDs and CDs sent from Britain only to return for sale was small, according to Metro.

In January, Tesco began running 2,000 trucks and vans on a 50 percent biodiesel mix.
