Shell Kicks Off Springboard Competition, Awards Technology That Cuts Emissions

Shell has kicked off its third Springboard competition. Shell hopes to spur innovation in ways to reduce the impact of global warming by offering six prizes in each of three regions of the U.K, GreenBiz reports. Submissions are judged on the innovativeness of the projects, their commercial viability and the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Up to six awards of between £20,000 and £40,000 are on offer in each of three UK regions, Manufacturer reports. Last year awards of £40,000 were made to eight businesses from across the UK.

Barry Johnston from Scotrenewables, which was a 2006 Springboard winner, said the credibility that his company earned by winning the Shell Springboard award also landed him more than half a billion pounds in funding secure additional funding in excess of £500k from the U.K.’s business department DTI and oil company Total.

The deadline for applications is November 9, 2007.
