Toyota Plant To Get Green Makeover

Toyota says that it plans to increase the sustainability of its production operations, Huliq.com reports. The initiative will emphasize the role of nature in creating production sites.

These “sustainable plant” activities are to be first carried out at Toyota’s Tsutsumi Plant, which makes the Prius hybrid vehicle and which has been positioned as a “model sustainable plant.” In addition to a cogeneration system already in place, the plant is to use a 2,000kW photovoltaic generation system, one of the biggest in use among the world’s automobile plants, according to Toyota.

TMC intends to paint the plant’s exterior with photo-catalytic paint, which breaks down air-born nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides with the cleansing effect of 2,000 poplar trees.

The company will also plant trees at the Tsutsumi Plant.

By carrying out the above, Toyota aims to reduce Tsutsumi’s CO2 emissions by five percent.

  1. So planting trees is now a major component of corporate sustainability? And the complete strategy will reduce CO2 emissions by a grand total of 5%. And this is something Toyota presents as progress? This only goes to show how far even leading corporations ,such as Toyota, have to go and makes for rather depressing reading within the context of the global Co2 and sustainability challenge.

  2. It’s great that Toyota is trying so hard to plant trees and be green. Now if they can just stop building cars that accelerate on their own and kill families, or build brakes that stop when the pedal is pressed, or electric steering that doesn’t steer the car off the road without warning, things would be just wonderful. Deck chairs on the Titanic.
