HSBC Names Head Of New ‘Climate Change Center of Excellence’

HSBC has named Nick Robins as head of its newly created Climate Change Center of Excellence. Robins joined HSBC in October from Henderson Global Investors, where he was Head of SRI Funds.

He will be based in HSBC’s London office, reporting jointly to David Burnett, Head of Global Research and Jon Williams, Head of Group Sustainable Development.

The Center’s goal is to evaluate the implications of climate change for the HSBC Group, its Global Research division and other business units. With a team of specialists based primarily in Bangalore, the Centre will study the scientific, regulatory and economic dimensions of climate change.

In June, HSBC announced that it will spend $90 million over five years on a “Global Environmental Efficiency Program” to reduce the bank’s environmental impact through a series of initiatives.

The financial company recently released the HSBC Climate Confidence Index.
