Fedex Kinko’s, Staples Receive Top Grades On Forest-Related Paper Practices

The forest-related paper practices of the five largest office supply companies are the subject of a new report, Green Grades: A Report Card on the Paper Practices of the Office Supply Sector (PDF), from ForestEthics and the Dogwood Council.

Fedex Kinko’s and Staples top the list with B grades. Corporate Express received a C grade and Office Depot a C+. Office Max brings up the rear with a D grade.

In awarding the top grades, the organizations say that Staples is eliminating from its supply chain all fiber from endangered forests in Alberta’s Foothills and Abitibi’s Quebec’s Boreal Forest and FedEx Kinko’s eliminated fiber from a mill that was getting wood from British Columbia’s mountain caribou habitat.

Staples also committed to have the majority of their paper FSC certified by 2010, and Corporate Express adopted a
new environmental policy that includes a preference for FSC certified paper.
