Companies, Municipalities Installing VendingMisers To Cut Emissions, Lower Costs

Bed Bath and Beyond has installed VendingMisers on vending machines in 800 stores to help lower energy consumption and C02 emissions, and challenged stores nationwide to follow their example. The action drew praise from the Sierra Club who is considering EnergyMiser one of the top 10 energy conservation technologies for 2007, according to USA Technologies.

Houston, Texas is installing nearly 300 devices in beverage vending machines in city-owned and operated buildings, facilities and parks. The city expects to reduce vending machine electricity consumption by 40-50 percent, representing an annual savings of nearly $35,000.

Houston’s decision came after the Texas Legislature passed legislation requiring vending machines in public buildings to be equipped with energy saving devices as part of a program to improve energy efficiency in the state.

Humboldt County in California installed 400 VendingMisers on vending machines in seven cities, following the example set by the South Bay Council of Governments who installed VendingMisers in 15 cities in the Los Angeles area. Earlier this year, Oklahoma City installed EnergyMisers on vending machines in the Cox/Ford Convention Center, Civic Center, city fire stations, and other government buildings.

Refrigerated vending machines cost an estimated $300-$400 a year to operate, according to USA Technologies.
