Retailers, Fashion Designers Deal With Climate Change

American retailers, including Liz Claiborne Inc, Target and Kohl’s are turning to climatologists for advice about global warming and what clothes to sell when, the Daily Mail reports. And British and European fashion bosses are likely to follow.

Because the industry revolves around major seasonal change, the effect could be enormous.

“You can’t have everyone showing four times a year to present the same thing,” said Beppe Modenese, founder of Milan fashion week. “People are not prepared to invest in these clothes that from one season to the other, use the same fabrics at the same weight.”

“I think we’ll start to see a move toward what you could call a trans-seasonal or all-year clothing,” Harriet Quick, fashion features director of Vogue UK.

Retailers in New York have already blamed poor autumn sales on the “Indian summer,” according to the article.
