Allstate Pays To Offset Customer Auto Emissions

Allstate Insurance has launched “Allstate Green,” which the company bills as an “eco-friendly insurance option” that lets customers offset auto emissions by funding reforestation and clean energy projects in the U.S.

With each enrollment, Allstate will give $30 to Carbonfund.org. Allstate says that the $30 will help offset a typical vehicle’s emissions for one year. The green option also includes paperless billing.

The program is being tested in Colorado and Ohio. If successful, a modified version of Allstate Green will be rolled out to customers nationally in 2008.

On the corporate side, Allstate says it will begin to offset annual energy usage of its corporate headquarters and business miles traveled by employee-owned and company vehicles. The company will also commit at least $200 million in “environmentally beneficial” investments over the next three years.

Allstate will also give agency owners the opportunity to offset the carbon footprint of their offices. By choosing to be a “green” agency, they will receive signage identifying their office as green.
