First ‘Climatically Neutral’ French Vineyard

The first-ever attempt at a carbon neutral vineyard in France is underway in Bordeaux’s Medoc region, according to AFP. Winemaker Remi Lacombe plans to offset his own carbon emissions by investing in a carbon-reducing project elsewhere.

Lacombe is working with ClimatePartner to measure his own emissions and find an offset project somewhere in the world.

Lacombe says the emissions equal 1.7 kilos of CO2 per bottle. Lacombe has already introduced several carbon reducing practices, such as exterior lights that switch off automatically and a new cooling system for the wine.

New wine labels will state that Lacombe is the first “French wine to be climatically neutral,” AFP writes.
