Stora Enso Releases Sustainability Report

Stora Enso has released its North American Operations Sustainability Report 2006/07 (PDF).

In 2006, the report states that:

Stora Enso operations in North America used more than 1.3 million cords of wood purchased from forests in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin in the United States; and in Manitoba, Nova Scotia and Ontario in Canada.

Most of the wood procured in North America came from private forest owners; 63 percent of the wood used in the United States came from private forestlands.

At its North American operations, 55 percent of the fiber came from forests certified to credible forest certification systems, up from 52 percent in 2005.

In 2006, its North American operations met about seven percent of its demand for raw material fiber with recovered fiber, up from five percent in 2005.

In 2006, direct fossil CO2 emissions from stationary fossil fuel combustion sources increased. Direct fossil CO2 emissions from mobile combustion sources remained level with the previous year.
