ProLogis Says All U.S. Construction Will Meet LEED Guidelines

ProLogis, the world’s largest owner, manager and developer of distribution facilities, has called for all its new development in the U.S. to comply with LEED sustainability guidelines. The company is currently pursuing LEED certification for 3.5 million square feet in the U.S. currently under design or construction. In 2008, it expects to seek LEED certification for new starts totaling more than 11 million square feet, or 39 buildings.

In addition, ProLogis has trained all of its North American project managers on LEED sustainability standards, and more than 25 have become LEED Accredited Professionals. “We anticipate this initiative will not only prove to be a successful experience for the company and our customers,” said Jack Rizzo, managing director of global construction for ProLogis, “but will drive further change throughout the real estate industry.”

The company currently has operations in twenty countries across North America, Europe and Asia. Last year, ProLogis claimed to be the first U.S. real estate company to issue a sustainability report under GRI standards.
