Super Bowl Powered Completely With Green Energy

This year’s Super Bowl in Glendale, Arizona, will be the first ever powered completely with renewable energy by using solar, wind and geo-thermal energy to offset the GHG emissions, KTAR reports.

In addition to the game, Salt River Project will also offset emissions for events leading up to the game as well as a couple Phoenix hotels where Super Bowl guests will be staying, according to Lori Singleton of Salt River Project. To offset the GHG, “they decided to plant trees in forest areas that were burned by fires,” Singleton said.

Last fall, Ford Field in Detroit offset the Thanksgiving Day Game, and last year the NFL planted 3,000 trees to help tackle the Super Bowl’s GHG emissions in Florida.
