Burt’s Bees Buys Wind Credits, Wants Employees To Do Same

bb2.jpgBurt’s Bees has purchased 3,954,000 kilowatt hours of renewable energy credits generated by wind farms. The REC purchase, made through Renewable Choice Energy, will offset 100 percent of the company’s electricity use.

In addition, when employees sign up for Renewable Choice Energy’s home wind power program, the company will pay 50 percent of the employee’s first year charges as part of its employee benefits package.

“Burt’s Bees is committed to supporting the development of clean renewable wind energy and to continuously improving our company’s overall environmental footprint,” said John Replogle, president and CEO of Burt’s Bees.

In November, Clorox paid almost $1 billion for Burt’s. Some have worried that Clorox will not maintain Burt’s Bees environmental practices, but others have said that the purchase of Burt’s Bees could make Clorox more green.

You can see a video of Replogle speaking about Burt’s Bees and sustainability here.
