Honeywell Expands Energy-Efficiency Program for Motels

coolcontrol2.jpgHoneywell has been awarded a $4.5 million contract extension for its energy-efficiency program Cool Control Plus, currently in use in over 150 small hotels and motels throughout northern and central California. The program, launched in 2006, met its conservation target a year ahead of schedule, so PG&E has agreed to extend its funding through 2008.

Under Cool Control Plus, Honeywell installs occupancy sensors in hotel and motel rooms to reduce the use of air-conditioning and heating when they’re not occupied. Installation and hardware costs are free, and with the extension, Honeywell expects to retrofit almost 12,000 rooms. Combined with the first phase, the program is expected to save enough power annually to light the Golden Gate Bridge for almost 50 years.
