L.A. Poised To Adopt Tough Green Building Ordinance

lasmog1.jpgTwo Los Angeles City Council committees voted Friday to require that all major commercial and residential developments cut projected energy and water use and reduce the overall environmental footprint, The LA Times reports. The ordinance is endorsed by some of the area’s biggest developers. The ordinance will affect privately built projects over 50,000 square feet. There are about 200 projects of this size constructed annually.

The LEED checklist includes such items as low-flow toilets, paints with low emissions, use of recycled materials, efficient irrigation, solar panels and use of natural light.
