A new survey by Bearing Point found that almost two thirds of firms surveyed had taken no action to cut the environmental impact of their supply chain. The survey of over 600 directors found that only 35 percent had an explicit green supply chain strategy, although 83 percent claimed to include environmental factors into decisions.
According to this article, the problem is especially pronounced in the West, where just 25 percent of U.S. companies and 45 percent of UK firms are thinking about greener supply chains whereas in Japan its 100 percent. This survey comes on the heels of Hewlett Packard, L’Oreal, PepsiCo, and Reckitt Benckiser joining the Carbon Disclosure Project’s Supply Chain Leadership Collaboration.
