Nordstrom plans to introduce new environmentally friendly packaging options for customers throughout 2008. Fully recyclable shopping bags and gift boxes and a reusable shopping tote will be available to customers as the year progresses.
The retailer will gradually roll out 100 percent recyclable bags from April through September as its supply of existing bags runs out.
During the holiday season, the company will introduce new gift boxes made of 100 percent recycled paper stock that is 30 percent post-consumer waste.
On March 15, Nordstrom will start selling reusable shopping totes in its West Coast stores and across the country throughout the rest of the year. “It’s $21.95 and fits two shoe boxes and is going to be a huge hit,” according to the retailer’s blog.
Many retailers have recently announced new bag policies, but most focus on plastic bags. Whole Foods is ending its use of plastic carrier bags and IKEA US no longer offers customers free plastic bags.
