Deutsche Post Plans To Cut CO2 Emissions 30% By 2020

dhl_gogreen08.jpgDeutsche Post World Net plans to reduce its carbon footprint 30 percent by 2020. DHL’s parent says it’s the first major company in its industry to set a quantifiable climate protection target. The goal will also apply to subcontractors.

To reach its goal, about 90 percent of the Group’s air fleet will be replaced by more fuel-efficient aircraft. In addition, environmental technologies will be used to improve the energy efficiency of sorting centers and warehouses. Hybrid engines and route planning will be expanded to reduce the fuel consumption of the company’s ground fleet.

The company says it will also start staff awareness campaigns to encourage employees to reduce their carbon footprint at work and at home through measures such as driver trainings and energy-saving classes.

Offsetting carbon dioxide emissions will also play a role in the plan. As well, the company says it will expand its customer carbon offset product, GoGreen.

Last year, DHL introduced a reusable envelope for customers that ship and return legal-size documents.

DHL has done well in recent research that has graded shippers on environmental performance and sustainability. reporting.
