Green IT Loses Believers

gartner_logo3.jpgThere was an interesting turn in opinion about green IT at Gartner’s Emerging Trends Symposium/ITxpo. Attendees at last week’s Green IT Great Debate session were asked to vote before and after on the question, “Does Green IT Matter?”

Fifty-eight percent believed it did before the presentation, 20 percent believed it did not matter, and 22 percent were undecided. After the debate, the numbers were 50 percent believing, 39 percent not believing, and 11 percent undecided.

Even though more people thought green IT didn’t matter after the debate, more people said they would spend their organization’s budget on the green IT issue after the debate than before. Before the debate 54 percent said they would, 31 percent said they would not, and 15 percent were undecided. After, the numbers were 55 percent, 34 percent and 11 percent.
