Swiss Re Buys ERCs In 2008 To Go Carbon Neutral Since 2003

swiss_re.jpgEarlier this year, Swiss Re bought and decommissioned emission reduction certificates equivalent to 230,000 tons of CO2 emissions, which the company says offsets its entire emissions since October 2003. With this measure, Swiss Re says it’s been carbon neutral since October 2003.

The decommissioned emission reduction certificates come from a hydroelectric power station project in the North Indian state of Uttaranchal.

In addition, Swiss Re says it has increased its emissions reduction target. The aim now is to reduce CO2 emissions by 30 percent per employee by 2013, doubling its previous 15 percent target.
