Dean Foods Methane Project To Generate Power

dean_foods.jpgDean Foods says that by early 2009 it will operate an anaerobic digester to capture waste from the farm’s 4,700 dairy cows at its Big Sky Dairy in Idaho and convert it to more than one megawatt of electricity, which it will sell to the local grid.

The project, which will reduce odor and methane gas emissions, will also produce a sanitary fiber by-product the company will use for animal bedding or organic soil enhancement.

Dean Foods will own the project with AgPower Partners LLC, an affiliate of Andgar Corp., an affiliate of GHD Inc. and Cenergy USA Inc.

The Environmental Credit Corporation reported that it has completed installation on the first of two projected manure lagoon covers at a dairy farm in upstate New York that would reduce GHG emissions this year an amount equivalent to the emissions produced by 700 cars in one year.
