Popularity Of Energy Efficiency Utilities Grows

energy_efficiency_utility.jpgEfficiency Vermont, an independent nonprofit provider of energy-efficient services, has helped close to 60 percent of the state’s electricity customers in seven years, and Delaware has said it will launch its Sustainable Energy Utility, or SEU, IEEE Spectrum reports. Other service providers are operating with positive results in other states.

Delaware’s SEU will oversee perhaps the most comprehensive energy savings and distributed renewables program in the U.S. and will focus on reducing energy use from all fuels in Delaware by 30 percent by 2015 — a third in homes, a third in businesses, and a third in the transportation sector.

Delaware is among 18 states suing the EPA in an attempt to force it to comply with a Supreme Court ruling that found the EPA has authority to regulate vehicle emissions, and among nine other state attorneys general have asked the Federal Trade Commission to develop guidelines for businesses that sell carbon emission offset credits.
