Taco Bell: Yo Quiero Energy Savings

Taco Bell plans to install new “Grill-To-Order” cooking machines in all of their locations to reduce water and energy use and improve cost efficiency, TriplePundit reports.

The system is operating in more than more than 3,000 restaurants — or about half of all Taco Bell locations — and the company’s plans are to have all of its 5,600 restaurants using the Grill-to-Order cooking method by 2010.

Taco Bell estimates that each installation will save $5,900 a year in electricity cost per store, which means it will save more than $17 million a year in all of its facilities.

The company estimates water savings from the new system of around 300 million gallons of water per year and roughly 200 million kWh of electricity (enough energy to power every household in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington, DC and Dallas for a day).
