TNT To Replace 100 Diesel Delivery Trucks With Electrics

Amsterdam-based delivery company TNT, in partnership with Smith Electric Vehicles, has introduced more than 100 electric trucks in the UK, China, and Australia, doubling its efforts to cut its fleet’s carbon emissions.

According to TNT, the company will sport the world’s largest fleet of zero emission electric vehicles once the “Newton” delivery trucks replace their diesel counterparts over the next 18 months.

The company said at the announcement it made in London this week, that the 7.5 ton lorries will prevent the release of up to 2.85 million pounds of CO2 into the U.K. atmosphere each year and the company is considering using only electric vehicles in all major European cities.

TNT’s first zero-emissions test outside of Europe took place in China last week. The company is partnering with China’s largest automaker and manufacturer of electric vehicles, Dong Feng Motor Co.

Last year TNT received a grade of ‘B-‘ in a Fortune Global 500 environmental and sustainability analysis of mail, shipping and freight sector.
