Baxter Aims To Reduce GHG Emissions By 45% By 2015

baxter_2007_report_big.jpgBaxter International’s 2007 Sustainability Report outlines the company’s goals to reduce its GHG emissions 45 percent by 2015; reduce total waste generation 30 percent by 2015; and reduce water usage by 20 percent.

Baxter says it has already reduced its water use by 18 percent since 2005 toward the company’s 20 percent by 2010 goal. It has reduced its energy use by 12 percent since 2005, and is more than half-way toward reaching its 20 percent by 2010 goal in that area. The company says it has also reduced GHG gas emissions by 14 percent since 2005 and is nearing its 20 percent by 2010 goal.

Baxter’s manufacturing facility in Cartago, Costa Rica, became the country’s first to be recognized as a carbon-neutral facility by offsetting 100 percent of its GHG emissions, joining other Baxter sites, including the company’s corporate headquarters, according to the report.

Baxter was on Corporate Knights’ and Innovest Strategic Value Advisors’ fourth annual list of the 100 most sustainable corporations in the world.
