Energy Assessments Help Boise, Chrysler Slash Bills

boise_big.jpgEven though it already had implemented proactive energy management policies, recommendations from a U.S. Department of Energy assessment saved Boise Paper Mill $1M in energy costs and 154,000 MMBtu in natural gas, the company reports.

A 2006 Save Energy Now plant energy assessment at Chrysler’s truck and minivan assembly complex in St. Louis, MO, revealed opportunities that enabled personnel there to improve the steam system’s efficiency and significantly reduce the complex’s natural gas consumption, Reliable Plant reports.

The Chrysler plant achieved total annual energy savings of more than 70,000 MMBtu and an estimated annual energy cost savings of $627,000.

Using results from an assessment of Boise Paper Mill conducted by David Morgan, of Akamai Energy, who used the DOE’s Steam System Assessment Tool (SSAT) downloadable here, the Boise Paper Mill says it identified and implemented a project that significantly reduced energy use in its steam system.

The DOE’s Industrial Technologies Program Save Energy Now helps industrial plants operate more efficiently and profitably by identifying ways to reduce energy use in key industrial process systems.
