Novozymes To Make Big Wind Power Purchase

As part of a partnership with DONG Energy, Novozymes says its facilities in Denmark will be wind powered by 2012, Ethanol Producer Magazine reports.

The Danish company that supplies enzymes to the U.S. ethanol industry says it will purchase wind energy with the money it saves by reducing its energy use through its partnership with DONG. The wind purchase will be the largest agreement of its kind in the country to date and one that represents more than 30 percent of the capacity of a planned offshore wind farm.

“The agreement will contribute substantially to increasing the demand for energy produced by wind turbines,” according to Lars Clausen, executive vice president at DONG Energy.

DONG states that Novozymes will be “100 percent CO2-neutral for electricity by 2012.”

Steen Riisgaard, CEO of Novozymes, recently said that bio-based materials offer more than a potential for low-emission fuels and that more companies are using bio-based products as raw materials for textiles, plastics and cleaning solutions.
