OfficeMax is now offering 100 percent post-consumer paper at its self-serve copy machines, OfficeMax announced. Customers can upgrade from 30 percent to 100 percent post-consumer paper for a limited time at no charge. The company has also slapped “Think in Green” stickers on its copiers.
Last month, OfficeMax teamed up with TerraCycle to deliver a new line of environmentally friendly office products to OfficeMax customers.
OfficeMax says it helps business customers reduce paper consumption in other ways. The Environmental Defense Fund’s Paper Calculator, for instance, allows businesses to quantify the environmental benefits of switching paper from non-recycled to recycled content, or from moving to a higher recycled content.
In March, Staples switched all of its 1,400 Copy & Print Centers in the U.S. to recycled paper certified by the Forest Stewardship Council – a first for a national copy and print operation.
A recent report from Dogwood Alliance and ForestEthics highlighted the forest-related paper practices of Corporate Express, FedEx Kinko’s, Office Depot, OfficeMax, and Staples.
According to that report, OfficeMax, which had probably hoped the campaign against it by Dogwood Alliance and ForestEthics ended last year when it introduced a new paper procurement policy, “has been doing the least to back up its green spin with concrete actions.”
