Virgin’s Branson Says Airlines, Other Industries Should Pay

Virgin chairman Richard Branson says he is willing to pay a carbon tax on his aviation business, Business Week reports.

He said carbon emission-heavy industries, including the airline, shipping and coal industries, should pay the price of being in those businesses.

Earlier this year, Branson offered to set up an “environmental war room” to combat climate change.

Earlier this month, Air France-KLM called the terms of the European Union’s Emissions Trading Scheme “discriminatory” and said the scheme threatens the financial well being of already stressed oil-dependent airlines.

JetBlue is offering its customers the opportunity to offset carbon dioxide emissions generated by their travel, and is among a growing number of airlines slowing down to save money on fuel.
