Energy Audit Saves Haynes $500K

Haynes International recently joined the Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) program out of the Indiana Manufacturing Extension Partnership Center, Plant Engineering reports.

As part of the program, the company, which currently spends about $9.5 million on natural gas and $5 million in electricity annually at its plant in Indiana, underwent an energy assessment

The audit, handled by the Technical Assistance Program (TAP) at Purdue University and the Department of Energy, looked for ways to decrease utility bills and production costs and curb emissions.

What it found was that the company’s gas-fired reheat furnaces could be improved, saving Haynes $500,000 annually.
