Marriott Introduces Eco-Friendly Meeting Products

Marriott hotel is introducing a series of eco-friendly meeting products to help reduce environmental impact of the company and its guests, such as using pads made of recycling paper.

A typical three-day meeting at the hotel, attended by 1,000 people produces over 12 tons of trash, uses 200,000 kilowatts of power and consumes 100,000 gallons of water.

Marriott is aiming to reduce those numbers with initiatives such as:

— Offering 100 percent recycled writing pads
— Purchasing pens and food-wares made from biodegradable and recycled content
— Making recycling containers more accessible in meeting rooms
— Placing water service in pitchers or coolers in meeting rooms instead of plastic bottles
— Offering organic and sustainable food and beverages such as Fair-Trade teas
— Removing linens from banquet buffet tables
— Retrofitting existing hotels to meet LEED standards

The New York Marriott Downtown recently flipped the switch on a “microturbine farm.”
