The Savoy to Reduce 40% Energy Consumption

savoy.jpgThe Savoy is closing for 16 months in order in hopes of becoming the most environmentally responsible hotel in London. The hotel is working with Evolve Energy on its $200 million restoration project.

Under the project the hotel will:

1.    Reduce its electricity consumption by about 50 percent and total energy consumption by up to 40 percent.
2.    Reduce 3,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions a year, the equivalent of removing 850 vehicles from London’s roads.
3.    Replace old boilers and heat transfer equipment with high efficiency hot water and heat recovery systems, low energy air conditioning, building controls and 24 hour monitoring and targeting of energy use.
4.    Outfit rooms and suites with energy saving equipment, including guest room controls.
5.    Incorporate carbon reduction strategy in the public areas of the hotel.

A recent report from Deloitte found that 34 percent of business travelers seek out green lodging.
