Concern About Climate Change Drops

drop.jpgA recent poll from ABC News, Planet Green, and Stanford University shows a dip in American’s concern about climate change, Greenwire reports, via World Business Council for Sustainable Development.

Twenty-five percent of the 1,000 adults surveyed in July said they think global warming is the biggest environmental challenge the world faces. That figure is lower than the 33 percent who responded in a similar poll conducted last year; but higher than the 16 percent who responded in 2006.

ABC News pollster Gary Langer says the decline in environmental concern is partly due to the shift of media attention to the presidential election and the sluggish U.S. economy.

Pew Research released similar findings in May, reporting that the proportion of Americans who say that the earth is getting warmer has decreased since January 2007.

A Harris Poll released in June, also revealed that most Americans are making lifestyle changes to help the environment.

  1. They can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all of us all the time. If carbon dioxide has gone up 5% in the past 10 years, why has there been no increase in temperature. Why was the rate of increase in the period 1970 – 2000 the same as 1910 – 1940, which was before all the industrial activity? Why weren’t we concerned when it was hotter 1,000 years ago (medieval warm period) – they didn’t blame their coal fired power stations then? People are asking these questions and not getting the answers.
