The North Face is celebrating its 40th anniversary by celebrating mother nature, and is coming out with a series of new green initiatives.
The company has announced it will offset 100 percent of all North American facilities’ energy use.
This will be done in three ways. First the company’s West coast distribution center will derive 25 percent of its energy needs from a 1MW solar plant hosted by EI Solutions and Recurrent Energy.
The company will also buy renewable energy credits from Bonneville Environmental Foundation. Any remaining emissions will be offset with the Conservation Fund’s Go-Zero land restoration and tree planting program.
It has also signed on with bluesign, an organization that helps the textile industry understand the chemical impact of the production process. The company is also supporting the Recreational Performance Outerwear Apparel Act, the new legislation that supports consumers and promotes advanced U.S. textile technologies.
