PECO Unveils Green Building As Part Of Environmental Initiative

As Part of PECO’s five year environmental initiative, which supports its parent company’s environmental plan – Exelon 2020: A Low-Carbon Roadmap, the company unveiled its first “green” building in West Chester.

The new building cost $2 million and eight months to construct, and is expected to use about 20 percent less energy and 40 percent less water.

The first phase of initiatives — which amounts to more than $15.3 millions of work — also includes installing a green roof and a new Crown Lights system at the company’s headquarters and increasing wind energy purchases to supply it; working to secure LEED certification for company work sites; increasing the use of hybrid and biodiesel vehicles; and investing in renewable resources to generate electricity for its customers.

In January, PECO called for alternative energy producers to submit bids to sell green energy credits as part of the company’s attempt to fulfill renewable energy requirements written into Pennsylvania law.
