Coke Rain Garden Captures Storm-Water Run-Off

coca_cola.jpgThe Coca-Cola Bottling Company is unveiling its first rain garden at the company’s Lexington facility this week.

The Rain Garden is a joint effort by Lexmark, EcoGro, Bluegrass Rain Garden Alliance, University of Kentucky School of Agriculture and Lexington Fayette Urban County.

Rain Gardens capture storm-water run-off and direct it to the garden. Debris from the lot will be broken down by microbes in the rain garden instead of going on to the street and entering the sewer system. This makes water running into the sewer cleaner and provides nutrients to the lawn without using additional water.
