IBM Launches ‘Cradle to Grave’ Environmental Consulting

ibm.jpgIBM is now offering Environmental Product Lifecycle Management to help clients make their products more eco-friendly from development and manufacturing through delivery and use to end-of-life reclamation and recycling

Last month, IBM launched “Green Sigma,” which combines the company’s CSR consulting service with Lean Six Sigma processes and applies it to energy and water usage.

The new offering takes into account current environmental concerns, regulations and business issues, and industry best practices. Based on that analysis, the company says it helps clients design for compliance and end-of-life management so that the products meet new regulations for energy use and material safety; as well as being easy to disassemble or recycle.

IBM will also take into account the product’s shipping, usage, reclamation and recycling, and evaluate carbon trade-offs through the manufacturing, distribution and transportation processes.

IBM’s global CEO survey found that the majority of them plan to increase their investments in CSR by 25 percent over the next three years.

The company recently made it into Plenty Magazine’s The Plenty 20, which awards businesses for bettering the planet in innovative ways.
