AT&T Installing 1 Megawatt Solar System

att.jpgAT&T has announced that it is working with SunPower , Pacific Gas and Electric , Morgan Stanley and CH2M HILL to install and operate a 1-megawatt solar power system at AT&T’s facility in San Ramon.

The system is expected to generate up to 25 percent of peak power and 5.5 percent of the facility’s annual electricity consumption. The nearly 3,700 solar panels constructed and installed by SunPower are expected to generate more than 1.6 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually.

The project is expected to be completed in late 2008 and received $2.1 million in rebates and cash incentives provided by PG&E under the California Solar Initiative.

Instead of purchasing the commercial system, AT&T will purchase electricity for the facility from an entity in which financier Morgan Stanley owns a major interest in. That entity will own the system as well as the associated renewable energy credits.

In June, AT&T added 105 alternative-fuel vehicles to its fleets in more than 30 cities across the U.S.
