Porsche, GM/Chevrolet Win Le Mans Series’ Green Challenge

american_le_mans_series.jpgPorsche and GM/Chevrolet won at the American Le Mans Series’ Green Challenge. Porsche won for prototypes and GM/Chevrolet won among the grand tourer entries.

The challenge was created in conjunction with the EPA, the U.S. Department of Energy and SAE International.

Organizers touted the American Le Mans Series’ Green Challenge as the first car race to use green racing protocols, which were developed by the EPA.

The scores took into account the amount of fuel consumed during the race, distance completed, speed, energy efficiency, and a well-to-wheels analysis of greenhouse gases emitted.

In March, Reece Nanfito, senior director of marketing for the Ethanol Promotion and Information Council, talked to Green Fuels Forecast about E85 fueling most of cars at the 2008 American Le Mans Series.
