suncsr1008.jpgSun Microsystems has released its 2008 Corporate Social Responsibility Report. The company reported that it had met its target of reducing GHG emissions from U.S. operations by 20 percent from its 2002 baseline four years ahead of schedule.

The company reduced electricity consumption in buildings by 36,600 megawatt hours, a 7.5 percent reduction compared with last year. Natural gas consumption was also cut by nearly 14,000 MMBTUs, a 7.5 percent drop from the previous year.

Sun has announced a goal to reduce GHG emissions from global operations 20 percent over 2007 levels by 2015. The company plans to reduce its buildings’ energy consumption by 3 percent compared with 2007; and reduce its total waste-to landfill ratio by 2 percent over by 2009.

The company recently earned praise from the EPA for surpassing its carbon reduction goals.
