Club Owners: Partying Can Be Green Too

greenhouse.jpgGreenhouse, a new club in downtown Manhattan, is putting green on top of its agenda, New York Times reports.

The two-level club, which is roughly 6,000 square feet, is seeking LEED certification and features high-efficiency heating, ventilation and air conditioning, as well as an LED lighting system that uses a little more than 3 percent of the energy of a standard lighting systems.

All the materials used to furnish the club, from the synthetic couches to the coasters on the tables, are recycled or recyclable. Even the bathrooms feature green – such as waterless urinals and low-flow sinks. The club also buys wind power credits to offset all of the energy it uses.

Other clubs such San Francisco’s Temple Nightclub, London’s Surya and Rotterdam’s Watt have also put energy conservation and sustainability at the top of their agendas.
