AIG Offers Green Building Coverage Against ‘Adverse Publicity’

AIG Risk Management launched AIGRMGreen Product Line to address green building risks. The company says the casualty coverage for property owners and managers of green buildings consists of two coverages, AIGRMGreen Reputation Coverage and AIGRMGreen Indoor Environment Coverage.

The reputation coverage provides up to $50,000 in coverage, per occurrence, when a green building experiences adverse publicity. It also provides funds to employ crisis management specialists to manage adverse publicity; guide and counsel key company personnel; and provide other services to assist in restoring a company’s reputation.

The environment coverage protects against claims of bodily injury caused by any substance or odor produced by or originated from a green building’s specialized equipment used to improve air quality or water quality control.

Aon has a Green Building Property Program, which covers both environmentally certified and non-certified properties, reimbursing property owners for full repair, replacement or upgrades of certified green building parts.

In May, five months after announcing it would offer green homeowners insurance, Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co. announced a green coverage for manufacturers who already have, or are interested in adopting, environmentally sustainable practices.
