Asia-Pacific Leads Demand for Data Center Management Apps

Three-quarters of respondents to an IDC global poll of IT decision-makers said that benefits from cost savings, followed by corporate social responsibility (CSR) and compliance, are driving them to invest in green technologies, including applications.

Applications that help businesses manage data center power and cooling are needed across the Asia Pacific (excluding Japan), IDC said. Those that help with management, automation, load and capacity administration of servers will also be in high demand.

Apps are divided into three categories: power monitoring and management tools, asset management and automation tools, and server virtualization software, writes Network World.

Several weeks ago, Cisco’s director of data center solutions predicted that the first generation of IP-based energy management applications will be released from many major IT vendors in 2009.
